Blanco Loves: Mountain Zebra National Park

The Mountain Zebra National Park provides a protected sanctuary for the Cape mountain zebra species, 12-kilometres from Cradock and 280-kilometres from Port Elizabeth. The park was proclaimed in 1937, saving the Cape mountain zebra from extinction, and finds its home in the rolling plains of South Africa’s Eastern Cape, in the valley of the Bankberg.
Cape mountain zebra differ from the plains or Burchell’s zebra, having narrower stripes, no shadow stripes and orange facial colouration. The current population of Cape mountain zebra contained in the park is approximately 350. The park is also home to eland, black wildebeest, red hartebeest and gemsbok.
Visitors to the Mountain Zebra National Park can also expect to see kudu, African buffalo and the endangered black rhino.
